Ottawa has hired Vic Finch as its community development director and chief building official. City Manager Thatcher Moddie announced the hire at the June 10 City Commission meeting.

Finch grew up in Ottawa and has spent decades working in building and code review. He now supervises Overland Park's building safety team, which includes inspectors, building officials, plan reviewers and development staff. While Ottawa looked for a director, he advised the city on code questions.

The director's job was on the city's list of openings earlier this month. Finch said he is excited to be working in his hometown again.
