The Richmond Community Museum will host a program on the Underground Railroad around Berea on Sunday, October 25, at 2 p.m. The museum opens at 1 p.m. so visitors can look through the displays first.

Berea was once a small town in the southern part of the county, roughly three miles east of Richmond. Little of it survives today apart from its cemetery.

Two local historians who have studied John Brown's "Christmas Raid" into Missouri in December 1858 will lead the talk. Brown and his followers brought 11 people freed from slavery into Kansas, hoping to get them safely to Canada. The program will cover where they were hidden while posses searched the area, who helped them, and how Ohio Road, along Central Heights School's west edge, fits in. Everyone is welcome.
