Since the April tornado, a huge pile of limbs and storm debris has filled the Orlis Cox Field parking lot. Crews are grinding it into mulch and expect to finish by the end of this week, Public Works Director DJ Welsh said, so the lot can return to parking.

The mulch is going to the city's Second Street brush site, where anyone can take it for free after work hours starting today, May 12. For a big load, call City Hall for help loading. The city waited to give it away until the debris was tallied for its disaster declaration request.

The Second Street site takes brush only. Report anyone dumping other trash there to the city or police. At the May 6 commission meeting, Welsh said the city hauled off 42 dumpsters during its free dump day.
