The Ottawa City Commission voted unanimously on September 23 to cancel the Proximity Park land sale with Lightfield Energy, which had planned a data center there. Many people in the audience applauded.

City Attorney Blaine Finch said that despite two extensions, no development agreement had been signed, and Lightfield had not submitted a draft. Finance Director Melanie Landis said no incentive application had come in. With closing due by October 30, commissioners decided certain closing conditions could not be met and told staff to send written notice ending the contract.

The city agreed to the sale in late December 2024. Commissioners said they want to find the right future use for the park. In November, voters will decide on a proposed city ban on data centers drawing over 25 megawatts.
