City Manager Thatcher Moddie updated the City Commission on Proximity Park on July 1. In late 2024, Lightfield Energy offered to buy the whole park for a technology campus with a power plant and at least one data center. It has until August 1 to finish due diligence and has not submitted final plans.

The land is already zoned industrial, so no rezoning is needed. Moddie listed eight guidelines for reviewing any project there. A developer would bring its own power or pay a city rate set so other customers don't carry the cost, and would cover any added water or wastewater costs.

The rest deal with lighting, noise, safe development, a development agreement and limits on tax breaks. Earlier in the meeting, 28 people spoke against the data center.
