Concern over a data center Lightfield Energy has proposed for Proximity Park has come up at every City Commission meeting this month. The minutes show five speakers on May 6, two on May 13 and twelve on May 20. They cited water use, noise, pollution, utility rates and few jobs, and several asked for public forums and an outside review.

Before the May 20 meeting, 59th District Representative Rebecca Schmoe wrote to oppose any rushed approval. She urged an immediate moratorium until residents' questions are answered and studies are done, including on wastewater, emissions and fire protection.

On May 6, Mayor Clayton said the project has not been approved, the land remains city property, and any project would need public review, including by the Planning Commission. Mayor Pro Tem Eric Crowley said commissioners share many of those concerns.
