KDOT has started work on K-33 and its interchange with I-35 at Wellsville. Drivers in the area should expect construction for about two years, if conditions allow.
The first step is an overlay on parts of K-33 between Shawnee Road and Stafford Road/East 10th Street. Over the next few months, the contractor will build retaining walls for a new bridge carrying K-33 over I-35, put up support piers in the interstate median and set girders on them.
The new bridge will sit just west of the current one, and traffic will move onto it before the old bridge is torn down. The work zone stretches from Shawnee Road on the south to near Pendleton Avenue in Wellsville. KDOT asks drivers to stay alert, obey the signs and put their phones away in work zones.
For details, see KOFO's report on the project.
