Replacing the John Brown Road bridge west of Princeton is taking longer than expected because some utility structures have to be moved first, Public Works Director Jeff Welton told Franklin County commissioners. The old bridge, a listed historic structure, collapsed after heavy rain in April. A one-piece bridge will replace it.
Four county bridges are due to be replaced in the coming months, after the county won a large amount of grant money for bridge work over the past year. Welton and County Administrator Derek Brown discussed the lineup, which KOFO called unprecedented for one county.
The county is also preparing to replace the Indiana Road bridge east of Pomona, which won a $1.8 million grant. Commissioners recently approved money for its engineering and design.
