The April 13 tornado hit Highland Cemetery, east of Ottawa, hard. It tore up many of the trees on the grounds and knocked over hundreds of headstones.
Cemetery Superintendent Greg Morrow told KOFO that city crews and other departments went to work right after the storm, clearing the fallen trees so the cemetery could reopen. They then started putting the stones back in place. Hundreds have been reset so far, and Morrow said there is still more to do.
Other spots along the tornado's path are still recovering too. The damaged Knights Inn at 17th and Main is being torn down, and repairs are still pending at the former McCurdy mechanic shop.
