The Ottawa City Commission voted 4–1 on October 14 to take no action on the police department's Flock license plate cameras. Commissioners will keep watching court rulings on the technology and will review the Flock contract before any renewal in 2028. Mayor Clayton voted no.

The vote came after a presentation by Police Chief Adam Weingartner, following questions from an area resident at recent meetings. He described fixed readers along roads and mobile ones on patrol cars, and said an alert is a lead for officers to follow up on, with no automatic stop or arrest.

Plate data is deleted after 30 days unless it is needed for an active case. It isn't linked to motor vehicle records or sold to other agencies. City Attorney Blaine Finch reviewed the Fourth Amendment questions courts have weighed.
