Ottawa United, a group of residents opposed to a data center at Proximity Park, has spent the past several days collecting signatures from registered Ottawa voters. Its petition asks that the question be put to a public vote.
KOFO reported the group needs a little more than 500 signatures within a couple of weeks. It held drive-thru signing events at Forest Park from Thursday through Saturday, and signers needed a photo ID. No signature count has been released.
If the county verifies the signatures, the City Commission would get 20 days to adopt the proposed ordinance. Otherwise, the question goes on the November ballot. Lightfield Energy, which has offered to buy the park, has until August 1 to finish its due diligence.
