Ottawa has set two more hearings on buildings it considers unsafe. On June 3, commissioners scheduled a July 22 hearing for two apartment buildings at 1017 S. Ash St. On June 10, they set an August 5 hearing for a commercial building at 214 S. Main St.

The two-unit north building on Ash had a fire in October 2025 and is vacant. In the five-unit south building, a 2022 fire hit two units, and one is still gutted. Staff counted 19 nuisance cases over nine years and about 175 police calls in the last decade.

The downtown building, which houses an appliance repair business, was posted unsafe in May after its roof failed. It shares walls with neighboring shops and apartments. Owners can present their plans at the hearings.
