The Ottawa City Commission on April 15 told staff to start securing easements for a water line to Ottawa Municipal Airport. The airport lacks the water service needed for modern fire protection, so fire crews responding there have to shuttle water in.

The plan calls for about 11,000 feet of line and seven fire hydrants. City utility crews would do the installation, which helps hold down the cost. KOFO reported that materials alone would run about $400,000.

Utilities Director Scott Snethen told commissioners a dedicated line would also support new hangars and other airport improvements.
